Agartala, Apr 14: The Twipra Students’ federation (TSF) accused Vice Chancellor of Tripura University Professor Anjan Kumar Ghosh to be anti-tribal and said that he abetted in depriving deserving tribal candidates of the state on ethnic grounds.
The student body protested changing the name of the Tripura University Cultural Festival from ‘Chongpreng’ to ‘Udbhass’.
“Changing the name was an indication of his anti-tribal attitudes. We strongly oppose the move and demand that the modalities be reframed and the earlier name be reinstated with immediate effect”, Devid Debbarma, Chief Organizing Secretary of TSF said.
The student organization further demanded the University to take initiatives for inclusion of Kokborok subject in UGC NET examinations.
Heading the University in Tripura, the Vice Chancellor must take steps in his capacity to ensure that the UGC recognized the Kokborok and said that students of the subject could benefit like any other student of different subjects and disciplines, Debbarma said.
Speaking about irregularities in Tripura University, the vibrant young tribal student leader said that the University had fallen in national ranking and was counted among the worst performing Universities in the country.
“Nothing is going on right at the University. They are having a convocation ceremony pending for years.
Many deserving students suffered in their lives and careers due to this delay”, he claimed
On the recent controversy of a major goof-up on examination results of the University, Devid said that controversies and allegations against the examination branch brought shame not only to the University but also to the entire state and every individual citizens of Tripura which in true sense demoralized every individual in claiming to be the son of the soil.
The student body also raised questions regarding recruitment of a Media Cum Public Relation Consultant; an intake that allegedly violated all fair recruitment criteria.
“We object to the age bar drawn as 45 years for the post. Anybody can be eligible for the said post at 30 years of age even if we were to take into account 10 years of work experience to his or her credit. The Indian constitution and our reservation policy also provides relaxation for reserved categories. There were huge ambiguity in this case”, Devid alleged.
He alleged that the recruitment deprived Kokborok speaking candidates since fluency in Kokborok or Hindi was ignored in the advertisement.
A separate source in the University today said that candidates were recruited at the B.Voc program in Film Production which totally violated all rationale of recruitment rules.
“A candidate was selected for the position of cameraperson with a consolidate pay of Rs. 10,000 per month. Absolutely no form of interviews were applied for his case. He was appointed without any selection test or interview”, the source said.
