12 Apr 2017 | PTI
New Delhi: Three policemen of Vijay Vihar Police Station in Rohini were today awarded by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik for tracing 77 minors, including 43 girls, who went missing in the last six years.

In the last six year, 82 cases of children going missing were reported in Vijay Vihar Police Station. Inspector Abhinendra, SHO Vijay Vihar and probationary sub-inspectors Divya Mann and Anuj worked hard and traced 77 of them, DCP (Rohini) Rishi Pal said.

These 77 minors were recovered from different areas in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Awarding the three policemen with 'Asadharan Karya Puraskar', the Police Commissioner stressed that tackling crimes against women and children is the priority of the force.

Pal said Rohini police district has unauthorised colonies like Buddh Vihar phase 1 and phase 2, and Pal Colony, where rickshawpullers and street hawkers reside.

From 2011 to 2016, around 82 cases of missing children were reported. The maximum number of missing children were in the age group of 13-16 years, Rishi Pal said.

Last June, the police team began a special exercise of looking for the missing children and started talking to the families. Initially, the families were apprehensive in sharing the details and they had to be convinced.

Following the police team's efforts, 77 minors were recovered. Some of the families were not willing to take them back out of anger. However, the policemen convinced them to take back their children, the officer said.

India has not signed or ratified over 200 UN pacts: govt

PC: The wire

12 Apr 2017 | PTI
New Delhi: India has not signed or ratified over 200 conventions, protocols and agreements adopted by the United Nations, the government said today.

This was stated by Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh while replying to a question in the Lok Sabha.

"India has not signed or signed but not ratified more than 200 conventions, protocols and agreements adopted under the auspices of the United Nations," he said.

To a separate query, he said India has conveyed its concerns to China at the highest level about construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor passing through PoK and asked Beijing to cease its activities there.

Singh said some of the proposed projects under CPEC are in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and it has been pointed out to China that Pakistan has been in illegal occupation of parts of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947.

"Government has conveyed to the Chinese side, including at the highest level, its concerns about their activities in PoK and asked them to cease these activities," he said.

On terrorism, he said China has conveyed to India that it has 'zero tolerance' for terrorism and their desire to cooperate with India to contain it.

"On several occasions, China has reiterated with us their resolute opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations with 'zero tolerance', and has agreed that there is no justification for terrorism.

"Given the convergence in our respective positions, government has conveyed to China that their stated position on terrorism should be demonstrated in concrete terms through practical steps in bilateral and multilateral fora," said Singh.

To another question on the Indus Waters Treaty, he said India's consistent position has been to address all matters relating to it bilaterally in accordance with provisions of the pact.

He said India has conveyed to the World Bank that it is in the interest of all parties to ensure workability of the treaty and its time-tested mechanisms.

To a separate question, he said the validity of the agreement between India and Pakistan on reducing risk of accidents relating to nuclear weapons has been extended for a period of five years on February 20.

Behead Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, get Rs 11-lakh: BJP youth leader

Image result for Behead Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, get Rs 11-lakh: BJP youth leader
Aligarh: A leader of the BJP’s youth wing has announced a reward of Rs 11 lakh for West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s head following state police action against a saffron rally billed as a show of strength.

The threat came a day after hundreds of saffron activists took out massive rallies in the heart of Kolkata to mark Hanuman Jayanti, highlighting the growing muscle of right-wing forces in a state the BJP barely managed a toehold in the past.

“Those who will cut and bring West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee head, I will give that person Rs11 lakh. Mamata Banerjee never allows Saraswati Puja, fairs during Ram Navami and during Hanuman Jayanti procession, people were lathi charged and brutally beaten up. She organises Iftar party and always supports Muslims,” Yogesh Varshney, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, told ANI.

In West Bengal’s Birbhum district, police said they had already warned Bir Hanuman Jayanti organisers on Sunday that no rally or meeting would be allowed. The organisers pressed on and assured the police that they would not carry arms. However, the police did not move from its stand and charged on.

West Bengal – where Banerjee returned to power with a thumping majority last year – has seen mounting clashes between state forces and right-wing elements, who say the Trinamool Congress is biased towards Muslims and is anti-Hindu. West Bengal sends 42 members to the Lok Sabha and is widely considered one of the toughest bastions for the BJP – which has won a string of state elections – to breach.

Three Christians arrested on charges of religious conversion in Madhya Pradesh

Religious conversion

12 Apr 2017 | Hindustan Times

Bhopal: Three Christians were arrested from a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district on charges of converting people on Sunday, officials said on Tuesday, in what is being perceived as an attack on minorities in the state.

Piplod police station in charge sub-inspector Shivram Patidar said they arrested Amarsingh, 35, of Khaknar Burhanpur, Kishor Barela, 30, Kalukhedi, and Prabhakar Barela, 39, of Jalgaon in Maharashtra from Sitabedi village, and booked them under the state’s anti-conversion law – the Madhya Pradesh Dharma Swatantrya Adhiniyam.

“They were produced before a local court and sent to jail,” Patidar said.

Police said the accused had organised a medical camp but told the villagers that they would be cured of their ailments if they embraced the cross and started believing in Jesus Christ.
Patidar said the men belong to Delhi-based Indian Evangelical Team.

He said a man called Raju Barela submitted a written complaint following which the arrests were made around 3pm on Sunday. Patidar said a cross and religious literature were seized from the camp that was being attended by about 40 to 50 villagers.

Raju said he attended the camp because he had a stomachache and a headache. He added that when the organisers started talking about Jesus Christ, he left the camp and approached the police.

Indian Evangelical team administrator Jais Varghese denied that any conversion was going on in the camp.

“These are false accusations. From what I could gather from my sources, it was a planned prayer meeting on Palm Sunday going on in the village when some people came with the police and made these charges and arrested the three persons,” Varghese told Hindustan Times over the phone from Delhi.

This is not the first time that charges of conversion have been slapped against Christians in the state under the tough anti-conversion law. There have been at least 4 such cases reported in the last two years in the state.

Delhi University undergraduate admissions to begin in April, month ahead of schedule

Delhi university

12 Apr 2017 | Hindustan Times

New Delhi: Delhi University’s undergraduate admission process is likely to start in the third week of April, a month ahead of the regular schedule in order to stop last-minute rush at top colleges.

The online registration form for the undergraduate courses may become available between April 20-25. Though the application process starts a month early, it will last till June like always.

“Online registration process will begin in April third week. There are some dates that are being considered. One of the dates suggested is April 20 but it could be anytime between April 20 and 25,” sources from the admission committee said.

Officials said opening the registration process in advance will give enough time to applicants to complete the process. The university had earlier planned to open registration process by March end but the plan could not work out.

“Board results are announced in May end but students can start filling the application form in advance. It will give them time to upload all documents and once the results are announced they can just fill their marks,” a member of the admission committee said.

Officials said till last year there used to be last-minute rush as there was limited time to fill the registration form. “But now students will have over a month and a half to fill the form. As most would have filled forms earlier so we are hoping there would be no last minute rush,” the member said.

No entrance test

There will be no entrance test for any new undergraduate courses. The university was earlier planning to start entrance test for some courses like Economics and Commerce but the plan has not materialized.

“There will be no entrance test for any new course. Entrance tests will only be conducted for courses for which we were conducting entrance test earlier also,” an official said.

DU conducts entrance tests for courses such as Bachelor of Management Studies, BA (Hons) Business Economics, Bachelor of Business Administration (financial investment analysis).

In 2016, the registration process started on June 2 and ended on June 19.

Fuel prices to be revised every day in five cities from May 1: Sources

fuel

12 Apr 2017 | Reuters

New Delhi: State-owned oil companies plan to implement daily revision of fuel price in five cities from May 1 ahead of a nationwide roll out of the scheme, industry sources said.

To begin with, daily revision of fuel prices will be implemented in Puducherry and Vizag in southern Indian, Udaipur in the West, Jamshedpur in the East and Chandigarh in the north, they said.

State refiners currently revise fuel prices every fortnight to reflect volatility in the currency and global oil markets.

State refiners - Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum Corp and Hindustan Petroleum Corp - operate 90% of the retail outlets in the country.

The three have up to 200 fuel stations in the five cities, the sources said.

The roll out of “daily dynamic pricing” in five cities will help them identify the problems ahead of a nationwide roll out of the scheme later this year, the sources, who did not wish to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, said.

No immediate comment was available from the state refiners.

Private fuel retailers - Reliance Industries and Essar Oil - are expected to follow their state peers, the sources added.

Reliance Jio announces ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan’ plan, offers 84 GB data for 84 days at Rs 309

Reliance Jio

12 Apr 2017 | PTI

New Delhi: After regulator Trai nixed its three-month complimentary offer, Reliance Jio on Tuesday announced a new plan that offers its Prime members 1GB of 4G data per day for 84 days at Rs 309.

Similarly by paying Rs 509, Jio Prime subscribers would be able to avail 2GB of 4G data per day for the next 84 days. Both the offers come with unlimited domestic calling.

The offer, named as Dhan Dhana Dhan, is “limited to one recharge only and not available along with Jio Summer Surprise offer”, according to the information on Jio’s website.

The move comes within a week of the telecom regulator asking the Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom company to withdraw its contentious three-month ‘complimentary’ offer of unlimited data usage and free calls on payment of a minimum Rs 303.

Trai, on April 6, had asked Jio to stop the ‘complimentary’ service offer as it was not in accordance with the regulatory framework. Trai had said that Jio will be required to roll back the 3-month complimentary offer in “shortest possible time” but clarified that customers who had already subscribed to the said scheme could avail the benefits till June-end.

Earlier this week, telecom operator Vodafone approached Trai alleging that Jio was inviting last minute subscriptions to its ‘Summer Surprise’ offer despite the regulator finding it in violation of norms.

“Reliance Jio is continuing with this offer held as not meeting regulatory norms, in the garb of configuration changes. For the past three days, it has been promoting and luring customers to quickly recharge to avail the benefits of a non-compliant offer and also asking its retailers to communicate the same,” Vodafone had said in its recent letter to Trai.

Jio had, however, countered the charges saying the company had made it amply clear that the complimentary offer would be withdrawn as soon as operationally feasible, and that customers who subscribed prior to discontinuation of the offer, remain eligible.
