Omar Abdullah posts video of Kashmiri youth tied to Indian Army jeep as human shield against stone pelters

New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah posted a video and a picture of Indian Army personnel allegedly using youth as human shield on their vehicles to protect themselves from stone pelters, a development that can trigger a big controversy. Omar Abdullah, a leader of National Conference, alleged that security forces are using Kashmiri youths as human shield to teach a lesson to stone pelters. Omar Abdullah called the alleged mistreatment to Kashmiri youths ‘so shocking’. This comes after a video went viral in which Kashmiri youths were seen assaulting CRPF jawans.
Omar Abdullah posted a video and picture on his official twitter account and indulged in a debate over alleged misconduct of Army personnel. “This young man was TIED to the front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep? This is just so shocking!” tweeted Abdullah with a picture of man being tied on front of a jeep of security forces. “Here’s the video as well. A warning can be heard saying stone pelters will meet this fate. This requires an urgent inquiry and follow up,” added Abdullah.
When columnist Tavleen Singh asked Abdullah why didn’t he react on video of CRPF personnel manhandled by Kashmiri boys, the National Conference leaders confronted saying, “Ma’am seriously? You are going to use that video to justify this action. So we should expect no better from the army than from stone pelters?” Omar Abdullah also took on media, alleging selective outrage. “Let’s see channels going ballistic and having discussions with outraged panelists now. Probably not since “Kashmir is ours” hell with Kashmiris,” he said in another tweet.
A video about the heckling of CRPF personnel who were on poll duty in Chadoora area of the district on April 9, when bypolls for the Srinagar Parliamentary seat were held, went viral on social media, leading to uproar across the country. Meanwhile, police has registered an FIR on a complaint filed by the CRPF over a video clip showing some youths beating its jawans.
