An Expiry Date For LPG Cylinders?

PC: Khochungte Awgin
14 Apr 2017 | KA 24x7 Online Portal News
Commonly used in our everyday lives, LPG cylinders are something most of us wouldn’t be able to cook without. But these harmless looking cylinders can actually be dangerous.Yes, practically every house in India depends on LPG cylinders for their daily meals and one small slip or oversight is all it takes to cause a massive fire.

Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and can cause lethal accidents.Using LPG cylinder past its expiry date can result in leakage that can also lead to an explosion.
How to check the expiry date of the LPG

On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the expiry date is coded alpha numerically which starts with A, B, C or D followed by a two digit number. e.g. D06.

A year is divided into four quarters –
A – for March (First Qtr) i.e, January to March
B – for June (Second Qtr) i.e, April to June
C – for Sept (Third Qtr) i.e, July to September
D – for December (Fourth Qtr) i.e, October to December

For example, your cylinder has ‘B-13’ painted on the metal strip. The alphabet B represents month June, and 13 indicates the year 2013. So a cylinder having B-13 mentioned on it means it will expire on June 2013.

However, there is a limited grace period of three to four months after the expiry as the cylinder cannot be pulled out immediately out of the circulation. There have been reports that distributors tamper with the expiry date as it is written with paint.

Veterans stage protest over Troubles 'witch-hunt'

London: The government should pass a statue of limitations preventing British Army veterans from prosecution over killings during the Troubles, the chair of the Commons defence committee has said.

Dr Julian Lewis MP told veterans rallying against a “witch hunt” they say is targeting former soldiers that “common sense and natural justice” demanded an end to the prosecutions.

Dr Lewis said new criminal investigations over killings that had already had military inquiries were “totally unfair”.

The investigation of former soldiers has caused outcry among veterans who contrast their treatment with the Government’s decision to free IRA prisoners and reassure on the run terrorists they will not be pursued.

It emerged late last year that as many as 1,000 soldiers are under investigation over 302 killings that took place over a 35-year period since 1969.

Dr Lewis said his committee was investigating the issue, but his early thoughts were “that a statute of limitations should be possible if it’s coupled with a mechanism for helping uncover the truth”.

He said the statute should apply to all sides in the conflict.

Around 1,000 veterans rallied in London, with more marching in Glasgow and Belfast.

Alan Dalgliesh, 53, who served with 2nd Bn Scots Guards between 1979 and 1994, said: "It's a bit of a witch-hunt for me.

"You join up (to the Army), take your allegiance and you're doing it for the government and now they're backtracking and getting folk for their duty.

"It's just wrong that you're just waiting for that knock on the door about something that happened years ago which you did as your job.

"Every regiment, every veteran is united on this. I've heard of a couple of guys who've had a knock on their door (from police) asking: 'What happened here, what happened there?'"

Tesco apologises for 'offensive' advert claiming beer makes Good Friday 'better'

Tesco bank
Tesco Bank
London: Tesco has apologized for a beer advert that ran with the "offensive" slogan: "Good Friday just got better."

The advert, promoting "great offers" on alcoholic beverages, ran in some newspapers in the run up to Easter.

The supermarket chain said it would not run the promotion again after it attracted criticism from religious figures.

Reverend Richard Coles, former keyboard player for the The Communards, said the advert was "extraordinarily and unnecessarily ignorant" and would likely "cause offence to many of their customers".

"It's not clever. It gets the 'Good 'of Good Friday wrong," he added.

Good Friday sees Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday.

The meaning of "Good" is contested but differs from how the word is used in everyday conversation.

Some claim it is simply another way of saying "holy", while others suggest it is a corruption of "God's Friday".

Michael Wakelin, executive associate in public education for the Faculty of Divinity at Cambridge University, said Tesco had "got it badly wrong" with a "crass" advert.

"This is a sign of desperate religious illiteracy," he told the BBC. "We are illiterate as a nation for lots of reasons ... This is a sign of people who have not taken the trouble to understand the religious mind."

It was also a "decidedly poor way of treating such a holy day", he added.

But others took to social media to defend the advert.

"Like it or not the Easter is also a secular holiday as well as a religious one. Most are travelling to families rather than to church," one user wrote.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We know that Easter is an important time of the year for our customers.

"It is never our intention to offend and we are sorry if any has been caused by this advert."

Israeli stabbed in Jerusalem, attacker arrested: police

Jerusalem: An Israeli woman was stabbed and seriously wounded in Jerusalem today and her attacker arrested, a police spokeswoman said.

The attack took place on the light railway close to the Old City, where Christian commemorations were under way for Good Friday as Jews marked the week-long Passover holiday.

The woman, who is her 20s, was in a "critical condition", the emergency services said.

Police had been on high alert for Passover when tens of thousands of Jews pray at the Western Wall inside the Old City and some visit the flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound above it.

The compound, which is the third holiest site in Islam and the holiest site to Jews, who refer to it as the Temple Mount, is the source of constant tensions.

Jews are allowed to visit but not pray at the site.

Palestinian fears that Israel will seek to change those rules have been the source of repeated violence.

A wave of unrest which erupted in October 2015 has claimed the lives of 260 Palestinians, 41 Israelis, two Americans, one Jordanian, an Eritrean and a Sudanese, according to an AFP count.

Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, the Israeli authorities say.

Others were shot dead during protests or clashes, while some were killed in Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip.

The violence has greatly subsided in recent months.

Kolkata: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday rejected as “untrue” Pakistan’s claim that India had not responded to “specific information” sought on alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav in January and said the military trial sentencing him to death was not transparent.

“I feel he did not get a transparent trial,” Rajnath Singh told media persons here.

Reacting to top Pakistani foreign policy chief Sartaj Aziz’s statement that India has not responded to a “Letter of Assistance requesting specific information and access to certain key witnesses” regarding Jadhav, Rajnath Singh said: “No no, that’s not true.”

The Home Minister said all efforts were being made to ensure justice to Jadhav.

“All efforts are on to get Kulbhushan justice. India will go to any extent to get him justice,” he said.

Rajnath said that on Friday Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Gautam Bambawale had sought consular access to Jadhav.

“As per information with me, the Indian High commission met some minister of Pakistan, reiterated the demand for consular access”

However, the consular access was denied again, for the 14th time.

Paris: Facebook says it has targeted 30,000 fake accounts linked to France ahead of the country’s presidential election, as part of a worldwide effort against misinformation.

The company said on Thursday it’s trying to “reduce the spread of material generated through inauthentic activity, including spam, misinformation, or other deceptive content that is often shared by creators of fake accounts.”

It said its efforts “enabled us to take action” against the French accounts and that it is removing sites with the highest traffic.

Facebook and French media are also running fact-checking programmes in France to combat misleading information, especially around the campaign for the two-round April 23-May 7 presidential election.

PM Modi launches Aadhaar-linked BHIM App on Ambedkar’s birth anniversary

Nagpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched an Aadhaar-based money transfer mobile platform for traders along with two incentive schemes, in a push to make the economy “less-cash” and curb black money generation.

Addressing a gathering at local sport complex in Nagpur on the 126th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, PM Modi said that the country is reaching a time when the mobiles phones will be where financial transactions will take place.

“BHIM-App’s success will be a global case study in coming days. It’s a unique concept in the field of financial sector across the world where such app will neutralise black money and corruption,” he pointed out.

Developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the Aadhaar-linked Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) mobile app is based on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI).

After the November 8 announcement to scrap Rs 15.44 lakh crore of high value notes, the Modi government has rolled out scheme after scheme to dissuade Indians from dealing in cash and switching to digital transactions.

In December 2016, Modi launched the BHIM app for facilitating electronic payments by consumers. In March, the government launched Aadhaar Pay, a new Android-based smartphone app.

The BHIM-Aadhaar app will pave the way for making digital payments using the Aadhaar platform. This will enable every Indian citizen to pay digitally using their biometric data like a thumb imprint on a merchants’ biometric enabled device which could be smartphone connected with a biometric reader.

Any citizen without access to smartphones, internet, debit or credit cards will be able to transact digitally through the BHIM Aadhaar platform. Already, 27 major banks are now on board with three lakh merchants to facilitate payments using the BHIM Aadhaar app.

Modi also launched two new incentive schemes for the BHIM app users – Cashback and Referral bonus – with an outlay of Rs 495 crore for a period of six months.

The PM felicitated the winners of the mega draw of the two major incentive schemes to promote digital payments--the Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi Dhan Vyapaar Yojana.

The BHIM app has already created a new world record by registering 1.9 crore downloads in just four months since its launch in December, 2016. India has also seen an unprecedented increase in number of transactions made using several user-friendly digital payment methods.

Until November 2016, the volume of all digital transactions was 2,80,000 which amounted to Rs 101 crore in value terms. By March, the volume of payments using various digital payment modes saw an increase of about 23 times amounting with 63,80,000 digital transactions for a value of Rs 2,425 crore.

Our job is very difficult here: CPRF soldiers react to colleagues’ heckling in Kashmir

CRPF personnel maintain vigil during repoll in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency in Budgam district of Kashmir on Thursday.(PTI Photo)
New Delhi: A series of videos purportedly showing local mobs heckling and roughing up CRPF personnel might have outraged many but security forces say they exercised maximum restraint to avoid civilian casualties.

“Goli chala dete toh kya hota aap samajh sakte hain (You can very well understand if the jawans had opened fire in that situation),” said a CRPF jawan from Uttar Pradesh standing guard near old Srinagar’s grand mosque Jamia Masjid. He does not want his name published as he is not authorised to speak to media.

The walls and shop shutters next to him are dotted with anti-India graffiti like “Go India go back” and “India your game is over”. It’s a Friday afternoon and the troopers posted in the vicinity of the mosque are on high alert – at any point of time a large crowd of stone-pelters can come out of the labyrinth of narrow alleys and charge at them.

A video clip that showed some men assaulting Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on their way to poll duty in Srinagar on April 9 has gone viral. Jammu and Kashmir police registered an FIR on Thursday on a complaint filed by the CRPF and the government has launched a probe.

The state police chief SP Vaid on Friday lauded the restraint and patience shown by the CRPF personnel.

“Our job, as you can see, is very difficult here in Kashmir. The mobs charge at us, we try to restrain as much as possible and as a last resort we use pellets or bullets,” another CRPF man, a native of Madhya Pradesh and posted in the old part of Srinagar, said.

“When we retaliate, say use pellets, we are criticised by sections of society. But people do not understand how we are targeted by stone-pelters,” he added.

A senior officer of the force, stationed in Srinagar, explained that CRPF soldiers facing stone-pelters during protests is a routine affair but the manhandling happened because they were outnumbered in the remote area of Budgam district.

“Generally, whenever jawans are posted it’s with sufficient strength and no one dares any sort of heckling or jeering. But in this case, due to the heavy requirements of election duty, at this location jawans were outnumbered by the mob,” he explained.

Another soldier from Bihar, on duty in a Srinagar street, said, “If I go alone in uniform into a sensitive locality here in the old city I can be attacked and heckled and jeered. What the jawans in the video face is the unfortunate reality here.”

“In the complex geopolitics, we paramilitary personnel are stuck in between.”

Omar Abdullah posts video of Kashmiri youth tied to Indian Army jeep as human shield against stone pelters

New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah posted a video and a picture of Indian Army personnel allegedly using youth as human shield on their vehicles to protect themselves from stone pelters, a development that can trigger a big controversy. Omar Abdullah, a leader of National Conference, alleged that security forces are using Kashmiri youths as human shield to teach a lesson to stone pelters. Omar Abdullah called the alleged mistreatment to Kashmiri youths ‘so shocking’. This comes after a video went viral in which Kashmiri youths were seen assaulting CRPF jawans.
Omar Abdullah posted a video and picture on his official twitter account and indulged in a debate over alleged misconduct of Army personnel. “This young man was TIED to the front of an army jeep to make sure no stones were thrown at the jeep? This is just so shocking!” tweeted Abdullah with a picture of man being tied on front of a jeep of security forces. “Here’s the video as well. A warning can be heard saying stone pelters will meet this fate. This requires an urgent inquiry and follow up,” added Abdullah.
When columnist Tavleen Singh asked Abdullah why didn’t he react on video of CRPF personnel manhandled by Kashmiri boys, the National Conference leaders confronted saying, “Ma’am seriously? You are going to use that video to justify this action. So we should expect no better from the army than from stone pelters?” Omar Abdullah also took on media, alleging selective outrage. “Let’s see channels going ballistic and having discussions with outraged panelists now. Probably not since “Kashmir is ours” hell with Kashmiris,” he said in another tweet.
A video about the heckling of CRPF personnel who were on poll duty in Chadoora area of the district on April 9, when bypolls for the Srinagar Parliamentary seat were held, went viral on social media, leading to uproar across the country. Meanwhile, police has registered an FIR on a complaint filed by the CRPF over a video clip showing some youths beating its jawans.

Aizawl looking to garner full points against Churchill

PC: INDIAN EXPRESS
Vasco, Apr 14: Title aspirant Aizawl SC will be looking to garner full points when they take on Churchill Brothers in their crucial round 16 match of the Hero I-League, at Tilak Stadium here tomorrow.

Aizawl FC's hopes of landing their maiden I-League title were dealt a blow by defending champions Bengaluru FC who struck deep in stoppage time through Marjan Jugovic to break Khalid Jamil's boys hearts.

With three rounds to go, Aizawl are now tied on 30 points each along with Mohun Bagan at the top and three points above East Bengal who are on third place.

Aizawl, who got relegated last year but got a chance to play this season after three goan clubs (Dempo SC, Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa) pulled themselves out of the I- League, are in race for their maiden I-League title along with Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.

Aizawl coach Khalid Jamil is optimistic that his team can will the title. "We are just three round away and tomorrow's match is crucial in our race for the title. We need to win to keep ourselves in race for the title.

"The boys have been positive and have come all along the way and now they need to keep themselves focus and win tomorrow's match before we play against Mohun Bagan at home next for the title clash," said Jamil.

"The last time we played against Churchill Brothers we won convincingly but after Derrick Pereira took over the reins they are a transformed side as they humbled Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan and East Bengal before they drew their last two matches against Shillong Lajong and Mumbai. We need to put up collective performance and not feel the extra pressure of winning the title," stated Jamil.

Churchill Brothers, who have pulled themselves out of relegation, are placed sixth with 17 points from 15 matches and are now looking to finish among the top five.

The former Shivajians boss will look to stick with his top performers, especially Ansumana Kromah who has been in blistering form.

He will be partnered by Anthony Wolfe upfront who was among the scorers against the gaffer's former side. Adil Khan and Rowilson Rodrigues will look to helm the defence while Bektur Talgat will be charged with marshalling the midfield.

All eyes will obviously be on the find of the season so far - the nippy winger Chesterpoul Lyngdoh who has been giving full backs nightmares.

Nepal SC orders arrest of Maoist leader

Image result for nepal supreme court
Kathmandu: Nepal’s Supreme Court has ordered the police to arrest within a week a ruling Maoist party leader convicted in a murder case during the decade-long insurgency.

The court ordered the inspector general of Nepal Police to arrest Bal Krishna Dhungel of CPN (Maoist Centre) and put him behind bars within a week.

A single bench of justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai issued the order in response to a contempt of court case filed by advocate Dinesh Tripathi on Wednesday.

The apex court on Thursday asked the police chief to deploy all its resources and arrest Mr. Dhungel and present him before the court through the Department of Prison Management within 7 days.

The former Maoist lawmaker was found guilty of killing Ujjan Kumar Shrestha of Okhaldhunga in 1998.

The Okhaldhunga District Court in 2004 had convicted Mr. Dhungel of murder and ordered life term for him. But in 2006, the Rajbiraj Appellate Court gave him the clean chit.

He was elected lawmaker in the 2008 Constituent Assembly elections.

The apex court in 2010 overturned Rajbiraj Appellate Court’s decision and upheld Okhaldhunga District Court’s verdict.

The Baburam Bhattarai-led government in November 2011 had recommended presidential clemency for Mr. Dhungel, but it was rejected by the court.

Despite the SC order, Mr. Dhungel has not been arrested.

The Maoist party has maintained that the Ujjan Kumar murder case is a “political” one and that it should be dealt with by a transitional justice body.

Mother of all bombs kills 36 Islamic State militants in Afghanistan

Kabul: There were no civilian casualties, according to the Ministry of Defense statement

As many as 36 suspected Islamic State militants were killed in Afghanistan when the United States dropped the “mother of all bombs”, one of the largest non-nuclear devices ever unleashed in combat, the Afghan Defence Ministry said on Friday.

Thursday's strike came as U.S. President Donald Trump dispatches his first high-level delegation to Kabul, amid uncertainty about his plans for the nearly 9,000 American troops stationed in Afghanistan.

The deaths have not been independently verified, but Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said no civilians were harmed in the massive blast that targeted a network of caves and tunnels.

“No civilian has been hurt and only the base, which Daesh used to launch attacks in other parts of the province, was destroyed,” Mr. Waziri said in a statement.

He was using an Arabic term that refers to Islamic State, which has established a small stronghold in eastern Afghanistan and launched deadly attacks on the capital, Kabul.

The 9,797-kg GBU-43 bomb, was dropped from an MC-130 aircraft in the Achin district of the eastern province of Nangarhar bordering Pakistan, Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump said on Thursday.

The device, also known as the “mother of all bombs,” is a GPS-guided munition that had never before been used in combat since its first test in 2003, when it produced a mushroom cloud visible from 32 km away.

The bomb's destructive power, equivalent to 11 tonnes of TNT, pales in comparison with the relatively small atomic bombs dropped on Japan at the end of World War Two, which had blasts equivalent to between 15,000 and 20,000 tonnes of TNT.

Nagpur: The Prime Minister inaugurates various development works here to mark the birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that every Indian should have a house by 2022, on the 150th anniversary of the country’s Independence, and the government was working in this direction.

The Prime Minister, who inaugurated various development works here to mark the birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar, said the people of the country should strive to fulfil the dreams of freedom fighters.

He said each and every Indian should have a house in the next five years.

“We have a dream for 2022. The poorest of poor should have a house of his own. And that house must be equipped with electricity, water and other facilities. There should be hospitals and schools in the neighbourhood,” Mr. Modi said.

Eaerlier arriving here on a daylong visit for various engagements, Mr. Modi started his day with a visit to the historic monument, Deekshabhoomi, where Babasaheb Ambedkar and over 600,000 followers had embraced Buddhism on October 14, 1956.

This 'Dharmantar' is considered the biggest mass religious conversion at a single location in history that took place 61 years ago.

Mr. Modi, accompanied by Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, went around the Deekshabhoomi and later garlanded a large bust of Babasaheb Ambedkar installed there.

A series of functions has been organised to mark the Ambedkar Jayanti on Friday across Maharashtra, including at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur and Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai, where Babasaheb Ambedkar was cremated following his death on December 6, 1956.

Born on April 14, 1891, Babasaheb Ambedkar was the first Law Minister of the Independent India, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution who dedicated his life for the uplift of Dalits, women and labourers, and was posthumously conferred the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1990.

Referring to Ambedkar, Mr. Modi said he did not have a trace of bitterness or revenge in him despite facing struggles in his life.

Brief Report of Discussion on Creation of 7 New Districts held at TRI, organized by Naga Welfare Committee.

-------------------------------------------------

14 Apr 17 | KA 24x7 Online Portal News
-------------------------------------------------

KEY-POINTS ON THE CREATION OF NEW 7 DISTRICTS :
1. The New Districts are created under the Revenue Department without even consulting the HAC.

2. Ofcourse all the Hill Districts are placed under Revenue District but we are paying only our house tax not Land tax. But if MLR and LR Act of 1960 is implemented, our land will be surveyed and after surveying a family with 6 members will be given 6 hactres of land, 7 members 7 hactres and 8 members 8 hactres but not beyond 8 hactres.
3. The remaining Land will be declared Khash Land (Govt Property).
4. To acquire a Patta in Khash Land Cabinet decision is required, consequently as we have few Cabinets we will not be able to acquire pata, therefore we will remain a Landless citizen in our own Land.
5. Land Ownership and Tribal land Law system will be abolished.
6. Our Constitutional Rights given to us under Article 371(c) are denied. If this new Districts are made as Revenue Districts, there is no future for Tribal at all for the casualties on Tribal of Manipur would be : No applicabilities of the following safe guarding Acts :
------------
1. The Manipur Village Authorities Act, 1956.
2. The Manipur Hill Areas(Aquisition of Chiefs' Rights) Act, 1967.
3. The Manipur Forest Rules, 1971.
4. The Manipur District Council Act, 1971.
5. HAC of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
6. Loss of land rights as your customary land holding rights will be replaced by MLR and LR Act, 1960.
-------------
To be more precise there will be no Seperate Administration for Hill Districts anymore in all respects. We the Tribal must fight against the decision or order of the GOM as the Cabinet of the Govt of Manipur didn't obtain the approval and consent of HAC in creating the 7 Districts which are under the Territory/Geographical areas of the former Hill Districts.

The HAC is the only Competent Authority over the matters of the Hill areas as per Article 371C of the Constitution. We have been Socially, Politically, Economically, Psychologically descriminated.

They(meitei) know the value of the Land, the move is continuing in the form of ILP, Anti- tribal bills, and finally the creation of 7 Districts.

Survey have already started in those Lands where even MLR Acts are not place under in some Tribal areas. There is also an evil intention of the GOM as the Land Records of the Hill are not yet being transfered to the HAC.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CREATION OF THE 7 DISTRICTS SHOULD NOT BE AT THE COST OF OUR LAND.

Nuclear test will be dangerous: China warns North Korea

Beijing, Apr 14: China today warned its ally North Korea against carrying out a nuclear test, saying such a "dangerous and irresponsible" move could lead to a breakout of conflict at any moment amid soaring tensions with the US.

Conflict over North Korea could break out "at any moment", China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, warning there would be "no winner" in any war as tensions soar with the US.

"There has been heightened tension between the United States, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The precarious situation deserves our attention and concern," Wang said without directly referring to strong retaliation threatened by US President Donald Trump if North Korea resorted to nuclear test.

"We urge all parties to refrain from inflammatory or threatening statements and deeds to prevent the situation on the Korean Peninsula from becoming irreversible," Wang told reporters following talks with French Foreign Minister Jean- Marc Ayrault.

Later, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said North Korea should not carry out nuclear test.

"UNSC resolution stated clearly that DPRK (North Korea) should give up all nuclear and missile related programmes.

Stop relevant programmes. It is very clear," he said when asked about reports that Pyongyang is bracing to carry out its sixth nuclear test.

"It will be very dangerous and irresponsible", he said, adding that the situation in the Korean peninsula is sensitive and complex.

"We have been calling all relevant parties keep calm and exercise restraint instead of taking action that may escalate tension," Geng said.

China's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Wu Dawe today went to Pyongyang after visiting South Korea and Japan for talks with the North Korean leadership.

Chinese officials said Trump's retaliation against nuclear test by North Korea could become a certainty after he ordered recent airstrikes against Syria and authorised to use the 'Mother of all Bombs' against IS militants in Afghanistan.

US has already sent aircraft carrier-led strike group to the Korean peninsula to step up pressure against North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un to refrain from developing a nuclear- tipped ballistic missile capable of reaching mainland US.

Speculation is rife that Kim Jong-un may order sixth nuclear test coinciding with his country's founder Kim Il Sung tomorrow.

Meanwhile, state broadcaster CCTV said Air China flights between Beijing and Pyongyang will be suspended from Monday.

VHP wants national level law to ban cow slaughter

Research shows that beef is most hazardous to human health. In addition, the cattle meat industry is a major threat to the environment. So the sooner cattle slaughter is stopped, the better. – Prof Hari Bansh Jha
Jamshedpur, Apr 14: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today demanded a national level law to ban cow slaughter, saying failure of the government to frame such a law gave rise to ugly incidents involving cow vigilantes.

"The incidents are the outcome of the government s failure to enact a law against cow slaughter being done illegally," Pravin Togadia, International Working President of VHP, told a press conference here.

He said that some "ugly incients" had taken place in parts of the country involving cow vigilantes, but argued that those incidents took place when cow vigilantes were striving to protect cows.

Referring to the recent incident in Alwar, Togadia said that the Rajasthan government had already imposed a ban on cow slaughter, but it was being flouted.

Togadia said that he had videographed cow smuggling to the neighboring country from Kishangunj district of Bihar during his recent visit.

On conversion, Togadia said that quality education, health and employment were the issues needed to be addressed to tackle it.

Togadia sarcastically praised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for helping awaken the Hindus who were in a state of slumber in the state.

"Mamatadi is doing a good maketing management on behalf of the Hindu community in Bengal who were slumbering and the approach of the state government helped the Hindus to awaken," he said.

Nagpur: On Friday, when most of the Nagpurians were talking high about Prime Minister Narendra Modi who visited Nagpur to quick participate in slew of events, there were few who had a different agenda up their sleeves.

However the security forces took control of the situation. The protestors also raised anti-Modi slogans after he left the venue.

NCP Women breach security
Later, when Modi’s convoy was passing through Wardha Road near Radisson Blu hotel, on its way to airport, NCP women activists led by party’s city unit president Alka Kamble showed black flags to Modi.

Kamble’s agitation has posed a question on police bandobast as sources wondered how the women breached the security to appear before the convoy.

Alka Kamble told Nagpur Today that nation is facing serious law and order crisis under Modi’s rule. Pointing towards the UP government’s decision to waive off farm loan, Kamble questioned Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis inaction over the issue.

World’s biggest bombs: India’s SPICE no match for America’s MOAB or Russian FOAB

New Delhi, Apr 14: Less than three months after Donald Trump took over as President, an MC-130 aircraft operated by the United States Air Force Special Operations Command dropped one of the biggest conventional bombs in country’s arsenal in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday.

Deployed by the US military for the first time in combat, the GBU-43 Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB) is one of the most powerful non-nuclear weapons in the possession of any military worldwide. The 21,000-lb MOAB’s sheer destructive power has earned it the nickname ‘Mother of All Bombs’.

Neither India nor Pakistan nor even China possesses non-nuclear bombs that are in the league of MOAB, developed in the early 2000s. In fact, their stockpile doesn’t come anywhere close to MOAB-like munitions.

The rare strike against Islamic State fighters with a weapon of this size has turned the spotlight on the world’s biggest and largest contemporary non-nuclear bombs, primarily held only by the militaries of Russia and the US.

Here’s a quick look at some of these deadly air-delivered monster munitions whose efficiency and power almost match nuclear weapons, and the smaller bombs that the air forces of India, China and Pakistan hold in their inventories:

Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power: Also known as the ‘Father of All Bombs’ (FOAB), it is the Russian answer to the American bomb. Moscow successfully tested the weapon in 2007; four years after the US developed the MOAB. It is reportedly the world’s most powerful non-nuclear bomb, capable of unleashing 44 tons of explosives compared to 11 tons in the GBU-43 MOAB. At 15,650 lb, the FOAB is lighter than the American bomb but the former’s significantly higher blast yield makes it far more lethal.

GBU-43 MOAB: Designed to destroy underground facilities, caves and tunnels, the US had developed the GPS-guided bomb for the 2003 invasion of Iraq but it was never used in combat until Thursday evening. Just like the Russian bomb, the 30-foot MOAB detonates before hitting the ground and causes unthinkable destruction by sending deadly shockwaves up to a distance of over a mile in all directions. The GBU-43 MOAB, however, is not the heaviest conventional munition in the American arsenal.

GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator: Known by its acronym MOP, the 30,000-lb American bomb is perhaps the heaviest conventional weapon in the world. However, the bunker buster bomb’s explosive power doesn’t match that of the MOAB or the FOAB. Manufactured by US defence giant Boeing, the GBU-57A/B MOP is designed to obliterate underground nuclear facilities and deeply buried enemy targets.

GBU-28 Hard Target Penetrator: The air forces of Israel and South Korea have the 5,000-lb GBU-28 bunker buster munitions supplied by the US in their inventories. The bombs were deployed by the USAF during Operation Desert Storm to carry out strikes against Iraqi bunkers, military installations and high value strategic targets in 1991. The GBU-28, a variant of the Paveway III bomb, can reportedly blast through six metres of concrete.

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad says news of gas attack ‘100% fabrication’
GBU-24 Paveway II bombs: The French Air Force’s Rafale omni-role fighters can carry a number of bombs from the US Paveway family of munitions. The heaviest air-to-surface conventional weapon the fighter can be equipped with is the GBU-24 Paveway II 2,000-lb laser-guided bomb.

INDIA

SPICE: The Israel-manufactured SPICE (smart precise impact and cost effective) bomb is the biggest conventional bomb that can be delivered by the Indian Air Force. Manufactured by Israeli firm Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd, the 2000-lb precision guided bombs are used on the French-origin Mirage 2000 fighters.

The IAF’s Jaguar deep-strike penetration aircraft can be fitted with 1,000-lb bombs for destroying the enemy’s ammunition dumps during combat. In one configuration, a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter can carry 26 bombs of 550-lb class to destroy a concentration of enemy armour and personnel. The fighter can also carry 1,000-lb HSLD (high speed, low drag) bombs to destroy enemy airfields. Indian fighter planes can also drop indigenously produced 1,000-lb bombs fitted with Israel Aircraft Industries-produced Griffin laser-guided systems

CHINA AND PAKISTAN

The People’s Liberation Army Air Force has a variety of conventional bombs ranging in the 500 lb to 3,000-lb class. Most of these general purpose bombs have been developed by the China’s North Industries Corporation. Most of the designs are reportedly based on bombs earlier imported from Russia.

Some of the designs also reportedly draw inspiration from the US Mk 80/82/83/84 bombs. Some other bombs in the Chinese inventory are also suspected to have been copied from Western designs. The conventional bombs with Pakistan Air Force are in the 250 lb to 2,000-lb class, with the design again based on the US Mk 80 series bombs and mated to laser guided systems of American origin. Former IAF vice chief Air Marshal KK Nohwar told HT on Friday, “India, China and Pakistan largely have a similar stockpile of lighter non-nuclear bombs. It’s nowhere close to the mega bombs that the Russians and the Americans can deploy in combat.”
