AGARTALA: With an intention to press for the demands of a separate state of ‘Twipra land’, the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) have announced their next form of agitation which would be a road an rail blockade along the Assam-Agartala stretch at Barmura range on June 22 and 23.
Speaking to reporters, Narendra Debbarma, IPFT leader said that the IPFT has been pressing for this demand for a very long time and they have been carrying on with a peaceful democratic movement since 2009 but to no avail. Their sole demand is the elevation of sixth schedule areas (TTAADC) of Tripura to a separate full-fledged state of ‘Twipra land’.
As part of the movement in support of the demand for separate state, the IPFT’s youth wing and its allied and fraternal organizations will organize blockade for 24 hours on June 22 and June 23 next on NH-44 at Khamting para area of Barmura hill range, said Debbarma.
IPFT leaders in the press meet also demanded for stopping of distribution of ‘khas’ land and forest reserve land in ADC areas of the state to the non-tribal families.
