Governor Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vaiphei during a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, his cabinet colleagues, leaders of different political parties and administrative officials also attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Vaiphei is expected to take charge as acting Chief Justice of Tripura High Court after a formal notification is issued shortly by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.
He started his career in 1980 in Manipur. Later, he was promoted as an additional judge of Gauhati High Court in July 2003. He replaced Deepak Gupta, who was transferred as Chief Justice of Chhatisgarh High Court.
The Tripura High Court was set up in 2013.
